Ungrouping Slide Objects

Before starting this tutorial, make sure you have a group of slide objects. You can learn how to group in PowerPoint 2003 or earlier version here.

Thereafter, follow these steps to ungroup objects in PowerPoint 2002 and 2003 -- for a PowerPoint 2007 specific version of this tutorial, look here:

  1. Select the group on the slide, as shown in Figure 1.

  2. Now choose either of these options to ungroup the objects:

    1. Right-click the selected objects carefully to bring up the contextual menu that you can see in Figure 2. Then choose the Grouping | Ungroup option.

    2. Alternatively, access PowerPoint's Drawing toolbar, and choose Draw | Ungroup, as shown in Figure 3.

      Note: If the Drawing toolbar is not visible (normally at the bottom of the PowerPoint interface, above the status bar), choose View | Toolbars | Drawing. This is a toggle option that alternatively shows and hides the Drawing toolbar. Learn more about the PowerPoint 2003 interface here..

    3. The easiest option is to use the shortcut key: Ctrl + Shift + H -- see more shortcut keys here...
  3. Save your presentation.
